What to expect

In this on-site Abrasive Wheels Training course, candidates will learn skills that will help them operate a petrol drive cut off saw, (Stihl Saw) they will be shown how to use both diamond and composite wheels to cut various types of materials that suits their day-to-day working activities: by the end of the course they with have a good understanding of hazards associated with these type of activities and be able to evaluate risk within their working environment.
On completion of the course, they'll be awarded a certificate of competence, verifying they are able to correct their petrol drive cut off saw safely and correctly.


What you'll learn

This course includes a safety lecture, visual aids and a practical assessment that will explain all the areas relating to safe abrasive wheel operations.

This lecture will cover:

  • All current relevant legislation
  • How to store, identify and use abrasive wheels
  • The importance of carrying out pre-operational checks
  • The safe and competent way to use cutting and grinding tools

There are several learning styles used within this training including visual, auditory and kinaesthetic/tactile.


Assessment

Theory test:
Prior to commencing a practical assessment, the candidate will need to be able to demonstrate their knowledge and understanding by completing a theory test paper. This consists of 25 questions; 5 open questions and 20 multi-choice questions. 80% is the required pass mark.

Practical assessment
During the practical assessment, a qualified instructor and examiner will guide them through their exam. After the completion of this course, the candidate will have hands-on skills, confidence and capability to work safely in a busy working environment.
